Cruise Blogging: Trieste and the drive there

It's probably going to take me all month to finish blogging about the cruise, we saw so much. I have 500 photos! I promise not to post them all though. :-)

Ok, so we left Baden at about a quarter to 10 on Friday morning. We all piled into Anne's new car, packed our luggage in, and set off. Mom and I had spent a half an hour packing snacks for everyone, which was some good planning on our part because the girls pretty much ate continuously the whole way to Italy.

The drive started out cloudy and rainy, and we didn't see much in the way of mountains. And then the clouds broke, and we were in the middle of the Alps! Incredible.

Amazing. We took some good photos while making a roadside pit stop for Maggie (there weren't a lot of places to stop, so we finally just pulled over and Maggie had an old-fashioned roadside potty break. Then it turned out that there was a gas station just on the other side of the next tunnel! Oh well, she didn't mind)

We arrived in Trieste at about 3:00, checked in to the hotel, rested a bit, and then head out to see the city. It was so beautiful! I had no idea it was going to be so lovely. Some pictures:

A canal
Nina on the water's edge at sunset. It was a warm and beautiful evening!
The next morning at the Piazza Unita d'Italia
A narrow city street

Then at about noon on Saturday morning, we got on the boat!

It wasn't hard to find!

The ship left port sometime in the early evening, I think while we were eating dinner, and we were on our way to Ancona!
